My friend's picking me up in a bit for our Weight Watchers meeting, which is a blessing because I have no drive to go anywhere tonight and need the extra motivation. Our meeting is at 7pm so I've had all day to eat and drink...I just finished a piece of my favorite dessert treat. Imported, in Alsace-Lorraine style, whatever that means, I do know the Alsace region boasts more Michelin restaurant stars than any other French region, and Lorraine is famous for their quiche, tarts and soufflés.
If you like Trader Joe's carmelized onion, ham, and gruyere tart, which Beth introduced me to and is my new favorite lunch (along with a salad), this is another one to try when sweet not savory wins out. It's low in calories, 3 WW points and relatively low in carbs (20g for 1/4 of the tart).

This evening I topped it with some 0 fat whipped cream and fresh blueberries on top, as well. The paper thin pastry is coated with a thin cream custard and then a single layer of shaved granny smith apples. It bakes for ten minutes and comes out perfectly lovely. It's thin, crispy, and light. Even if you don't like apple pie or applesauce, this tastes really good. The cinnamon sugar sprinkle is optional.
It costs about $3.79.
Serving size is 1/4 of the tart:
140 calories
6 grams of fat
20 grams of carbs
3 grams of fiber
2 grams of protein
Delicious! I'm gaining poundage just thinking about it!

How fun! I love sweets. I think its from all the years of the "no sugar" rule for us when we were kids. :( Oh well. See my post for today and you will find my new addiction....
Have fun at WW.
Amylia.......One of the WORSE things to do to a Feline is to declaw.
It is a painful and emotional traumatic event for a cat.....Your Figgy!! Claws are what Nature intended them to have and not be taken away despite the fact that he is not feral.
You made a wrong decision.
WHY?
Poor Figgy, but I'm sure he loves all the extra attention he's getting. I'm sure he'll be as good as new in no time.
This tart looks so delicious. I just love apple stuff.
Hey, be careful out there in that cold.
Aww the figster is precious! That picture is so cute and it just makes me want to curl up with my cats and some blankies instead of hitting the gym as planned. Especially after spending 2 hours in the snow getting home (normally I don't ride in the car, I take a train and am home in 30 minutes).
Oh that tart looks yummy. I do not need that tart. I'm so glad I've never been to Trader Joe's, although I do want to go but not for that tart. I'm glad you've got someone to support you in your WW mission!
PS.
Ahhhhhhhh! What do you think of that little surprise your sister posted on TuDiabetes?! Exciting news to say the least.
You guys need to try that tart! It is really good.
Barry,
All of my cats have been declawed, either that way when I got them or out of necessity, and they have been totally fine. Both of my cats were mousers, bringing live animals into the house despite having no claws and I've had baby birds, squirrels, mice and live rodents brought into the house by both my cats who are totally declawed.
While I do know that it is traumatic, so is circumcision and we Americans do that to our boys all the time and it's not really necessary. I'm just sayin....
UH, JILLIAN,
I DIDN'T KNOW!!! You are the one to tip me off to it. Holy crap. I can't believe I found out via you via TUDIABETES! WOWZAS..................................................
Your sister's post is right above yours on the Diabetes Daily headlines. I didn't even put two and two together until after I read Jillians comment - then I had to go back and actually look at the profile picture.
I guess the diabetes world is just too small for any secrets to be safe!!
whoa! that's so crazy/funny that you found out about your twin's pregnancy via a blog comment via tu diabetes. i actually saw that post and didn't realize it was your twin, which is surprising cuz you guys really do look alike.
I don't know what looks sweeter, the dessert or the precious kitty!
Don't feel bad about Figgy, just spoil her rotten. I felt the same way when my puppy got spayed (with complications no less), but in the end they always bounce back. The important thing is that you get to keep her, and she stays inside.
OK, After reading the other comments, now..WHOA!
I can't believe you found out via internet.
Congrats to your sister!
Crap! I feel so bad. I'm sorry!!!!!!!
Jilly Bean,
It's OKAY! I'm glad you told me. It makes a good story. Please don't feel bad. Obviously, when my sister put it up there, she KNEW that I'd probably read it, she just thought she'd get to me first, but she didn't! Hahah...Please don't feel bad. It's totally not your fault and it doesn't matter anyway. We're so happy about it!
Thank gawd we don't have a Trader Joes' here because I'd be pounding that tart back like it was nobody's business.
Just so you know, that photo of Figgy makes me want to cuddle up. He is emanating warmth.
That picture of Figgy is adorable. I love cats.
